The Crescent Theater is proud to announce the inaugural installment of its quarterly Shorts series. For the first installment, to be screened during Arts Alive in downtown Mobile, AL, we're screening nothing but locally produced animated films. And probably a few regional ones. But we're not seeking out or expecting any national ones.

The difficulty is that there aren't many people in the Mobile Bay area currently producing animated films. In order to help those interested in producing an animated short overcome both the artistic and technical challenges of animation and filmmaking in general, several workshops will be held for registered teams to provide assistance.

Create an original, animated short of 10 minutes max length
Early registration is $5, becomes $15 on March 1st
Film submission deadline is April 1st, 2010
Films will be screened and judged during Arts Alive
Winners will be shown before the movie at the Crescent Theater for one week

Q&A

How long can my film be?

10 minutes or less, including title and credit sequences.

Does it really have to be animated?

Yes, but keep in mind that animation is a very diverse format; it doesn't have to be cartoons. There's plenty of wiggle room.

Can I submit more than one film?

Yes, but each film requires a separate registration.

Can I submit a film I made previously

Yes, as long as it fits the basic requirements.

What are the prizes?

Winners will be screened before the movie at the Crescent Theater for a week. More prizes to be announced soon.

Are you hiring?

If you're interested in helping as a volunteer intern, email us. Otherwise, sorry, no.

I want to participate, but don't have the technical know-how.
